Labiaplasty
Frequent Asked Topics
What is Labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty is the cosmetic procedure to change the shape or contour of the labia minora, the inner fold of the vagina. The size and shape of the labia mirona vary from person to person. Some women naturally have longer labial minora. Its shape can be altered by childbirth or aging effect. Sometimes, the length of the labia minora can cause discomfort during intercourse, chaffing or irritation with clothing. Some patients may choose to have labiaplasty simply because they feel uncomfortable with the appearance of their labia. By improving the shape of the labia minora may increase their confidence or self-esteem.
Is labiaplasty an office procedure?
The procedure is performed in the office under local anesthesia. It would take about 1-2 hours for the procedure. Most of the time you can drive yourself home since you do not have any sedation, or you can choose to have someone to help you with the transportation. The discomfort can last for a few weeks, but it will improve with time. You will be provided with pain medications. You can walk around the house but avoid heavy lifting, exercise, and house chores during the first few days after the operation. Your activities will gradually increase with time as you feel better. You should not have intercourse for at least 6 weeks after the surgery.
